Dear High Plains Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are so excited to be back to school after such a long break, and are looking forward to a great (but different) year ahead!
The High Plains PTCO is an active organization that is open to the entire High Plains community. If you are a parent of a child at High Plains, you are part of the PTCO. Generally, the PTCO plans and sponsors a number of fun community activities (including Family Fun Night, Celebration of Culture, Parents and Pastries, and the Family Fun Run). We also usually hold several fundraisers throughout the year (including the Run4Fund$, the High Plains Auction, book fairs, Hungry Hawks restaurant nights, and Soaring to Success). Typically, we would be providing you more specifics about these plans at this time. But as you know, this is not a typical year!
Our board and our many parent volunteers have been working hard to modify plans to comply with the current limitations. At least for the foreseeable future, we will not be allowed to hold any in-person events. But, we are hopeful we can still find ways to create some socially-distanced fun and connection among High Plains families. These plans are all in process, and we will share more details as the year progresses. Please stay tuned for updates, and we ask for your patience as we navigate these strange circumstances.
While we do hope to create a cheerful and fun environment, we also acknowledge that the last several months have been incredibly difficult for so many families in our community. Our PTCO has struggled with how to best meet the needs of all of our High Plains families and students. Some of us are longing for events and activities that will allow us to reconnect with others, and we’d love to do what we can to facilitate that! But, others of us are struggling to get through each day, and we want to respect the gravity of the current environment. We’ll try our best to strike the right balance, and please know that no matter where you find yourself this year, we totally get it. We have no expectations from any of you beyond doing what is best for you and your family.
We will be communicating extensively by email this year. As in years past, we will be sending a weekly High Plains Happenings email that outlines what is going on in the community. You can also expect emails periodically throughout the week. If you are not receiving emails from the PTCO, please contact us! Also, please bookmark the PTCO Web Site at http://highplainsptco.digitalpto.com/ for important information and how to contact the PTCO Executive Board or other Committee Members. Also, please mark your calendars for our first PTCO general meeting on Thursday, September 3rd at 8 am (via Zoom). More details to come.
Feel free to reach out to us with any questions, comment, ideas or concerns at [email protected]. Thank you for your continued support of High Plains Elementary!
